Access to AO Platform Ontology from 3rd Party Products (Preview)

MCP Server - for Developers and Admins

Intended audience: Developers administrators

AO Platform: 5.0

Overview

This topic provides insight into how to access the AO Platform Semantic Layer from Anthropic Claude using the App Orchid MCP Server Connector. This section is intended for MCP client users (people connecting to Claude or other MCP hosts to the server), and for Implementation or QA teams validating the integration.

The ao-mcp-server is a Spring Boot 3.4 / Java 21 Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. It bridges AI clients (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Claude connector, etc.) to the AO Platform by exposing platform capabilities as standardised MCP tools:

  • Semantic SQL — generate SQL from natural language, validate, and execute

  • NLQ to data — one-shot natural language → tabular results

  • Schema-on-read — discover ontologies, MSOs, columns, relationships, and sample data

The server never validates or mints tokens. Authentication is pass-through: the Bearer token or API key the MCP client sends is forwarded verbatim to the AO Platform, which is the authoritative validator.

Runs on: port 8080 by default.
