Best Practice > Reviewing and Fixing Issues

Intended audience: developers administrators

AO Platform: 4.4

Overview

The AO Platform has functionality that automatically checks for “issues” in both the Ontology and MSO Composers. Although not all issues can be detected based on the AO Platform’s validation rules, the Issues pages within the Composers are a valuable resource for checking the Ontology, associated MSOs, and their MSO Properties that could, in any way, be improved on.

Why Is This Important

Ontologies, associated MSOs, and their MSO Properties can represent both simple and very complex business domains, whether sourced from a single data source or multiple data sources. The Ontology Discovery processes do a good job of scanning and proposing the automatic creation and enrichment of an Ontology. However, the reason for this “Best Practice” overview is to create an optimized Ontology, where some improvements are inevitable to ensure a better outcome for solution users, - and hence the need for both automatic and manual validation and further updates.

The automatic validation process can either be initiated manually from the Ontology and MSO Options menus or indeed enabled, so validation is always executed after any updates of these components. See the links in the References section below for where to find, run, and enable the validation processes.

What To Do

Go to the Issues page in either the Ontology or MSO Composers. If validation has already been done, one or more records will be shown on the page with a status to indicate the seriousness of an issue found. Review each issue and fix accordingly.

Issues are categorized based on severity status:

  • image-20250703-132059.png - this is the most serious issue severity. The issue should be fixed with priority to avoid issues in any solution associated with the Ontology.

  • image-20250703-132749.png - this is a less serious issue severity. The issue should still be considered with some priority to avoid issues in any solution associated with the Ontology.

  • image-20250703-132642.png - this is a minor issue severity, and will generally not impact the user experience of the associated solutions.
